Amsterdam
is one of Europe's most exciting cities and it has restaurants to match.
Due to the large greenhouses just outside Amsterdam gowing fantastic
organic fruit and veg and the Dutch ability to easily embrace new cultures,
Amsterdam has now some of the most varied and best restaurants in Europe.
You have to try traditional delicacies such as herring, cheese and lamb
and if this isn't your thing, you have global cuisine at your doorstep
including the culinary delights of the spicy food of Indonesia, China
and India. There are great restaurats dotted around the whole city that
cater for all budgets.
Dynasty: [Reguliersdwarsstraat 30, Amsterdam Tel: 020-626-8400] A little kitch wth a themed interior including vibrant colors and paper umbrellas bu the beautiful gardens are a fabulous to sample some reat chinese cooking during the summer monts. The menu is predominantly Chinese, but also features Thai, Vietnamese, Malay, and Filipino. Vegetables are fantastic as are the meat including lamb, beef, duck, lobster, and seafood. This is one of Amsterdam's most popular Asian venues so it's best to reserve.
Tempo Doeloe: [Utrechtsestraat 75, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-625-6718] One of the best Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam. Small and intimate, the vibrant dishes offer a foray into the flavours and aromas of the South Pacific. There's an a la carte and normal menu and both are equally as lip smacking.
Tom Yam Fusion Cuisine:[Staalstraat 22, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-622-9533] They have a very cool thing going at cool Tom Yam. It's a cross between the simplicity of the East and richness of French cuisine. Kangaroo, red curry soup with tiger prawns or beef sirloin, marinated brill with sea urchin sauce, or pan-fried pigeon make up a wonderful and varied menu. The wine list is fantastic but it is a tad pricy. Reservations receommended.
De Prins: [Prinsengracht 124, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-624-9382] This is a local favourite and serves up tradional Dutch fare including pork, steak, fondue, pastas, and duck. There's outdoor terrace making is wonderful for dining along the canal. If not, the comfortable canal house will more than satisfy with its relaxed ambience.
Spanjer en Van Twist: [Leliegracht 60, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-639-0109] Tbhis restaurant in the area of Jordaan is a favourite with the locals and is starting to get a good reputaion for for flavour and quality. There's an outdoor terrace when the weather is hot.
Toscanini: [Lindengracht 75, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-623-2813] A spacious dining room in Jordaan that proves popular with tourists and locals alike. The skylights and an open kitchen give this restaurant bags of character. You'll find southern Italian cuisine including fresh breads and pastas, Italian wines, and authentic meat and seafood dishes. Reservations recommended.
Zest: [Prinsenstraat 10, Amsterdam, Tel: 020-428-2455] This is one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam and well worth the money. It offers diners a mix between Asian and Mediterranean. Thai curries, grilled lamb, fish and seafood dishes are on the menu. This is a wonderful restaurants perfect for an intimate dinner.
