Amsterdam's Hotel De L'Europe is opposite the Central Station and over-looks the river Amstal. It is a famous landmark of Amsterdam. At 350 euros for a nights reservation we couldn't afford to stay in this fabulous hotel but we were given a guided tour. As we were led up to one of the hotel's standard double rooms, walking through the lobby, we saw many masterpiece paintings lining the walls. We were also stunned by the size of the hotel - you could probably fit the whole of Amsterdam's Ajax football team just in the cupboard space. All their big massive rooms offer natty, plumped-up comfort and most of the hotel's 80 rooms and 20 suites offer balconies overlooking the river and/or canals of Amsterdam.

Each customer is welcomed by flowers, chocolates, beer and the bathroom is equipped with Toiletries by Bulgary. Dutch hospitality at its best. The Restaurant Excelsior, is one of the Netherland's best dining rooms and is a formal, almost stately affair with a classic haute menu.

The hotel also has a Fitness Centre with swimming pool, sauna, steam room and massage facilities.
