We don’t normally recommend the larger corporate hotels but as a reservation costs from 89 euros for a standard double per night at this hotel, we thought this was worth throwing in. It stands on the foundations of the 13th - century castle Heeren van Aemstel and is in the car free zone of Kolkplein just near Amsterdam's Central Station, the old centre and Dam Square.

With 256 rooms spread over 5 floors it’s a large hotel and since it's a car free zone it’s extremely quiet at night. Our hotel room was what you’d expect from a 4* corporate hotel, fairly large, bright and clean but nothing to write home about. It does have a fitness centre including a swimming pool [ which help making those heavy nights seem like a distant memory ].
