Amsterdam's the American Hotel is run within the Crown Plaza chain but don’t let that deter you from staying here. The location is fantastic, just 2 minutes from Amsterdam's Leidesplein and the building itself is something to marvel. It was built between 1900 and 1902 is a listed Art Nouveau monument. The hotel has recently gone through a refurbishment making it an even better bargain than the 190 euros for a superior double room we paid for the night.

The hotel has a funky art-deco bar which is a meeting place for all the hip and trendy inhabitants of Amsterdam.

All hotel 172 rooms offer satellite television, in-house movies, radio, direct dial telephones, dataport, minibar and hairdryer.
