Like their Finnish neighbours, the Estonians have a reputation for being cool up until they start drinking. With more pubs, bars and clubs that you could shake a stick at, Tallinn is the secret partying capital of Eastern Europe. Many Tallinn bars and clubs stay open until dawn and in all the drink flows freely: beer, vodka and, in winter, delicious warming mulled wine.

Tallinn Bar & Restaurant

Pegasus: [ Harju 1; 631 4040, Tallinn ] This is a great place to start your evening. Greeted by a large classy steel-and-glass bar, relax with the young and trendy people who drink coffee by day, and down martinis by night. The restaurant upstairs dishes out eastern European dishes with a modern twist. Find wild boar and pike on the menu.

Kaheksa & Hollywood: [ Vana-Posti 8; 627 4770, Tallinn ] Kaheksa is based in the Soprus building which was a former cinema of the Stalin era. This is a very cool place filled with trendy twenty and thirty-something's. Try one of the fruit smoothies laced with vodka. The complex also houses one of the city's hottest nightspots, Club Hollywood, cool trendy young things, go-go dancers and tourists all gyrate to the hippest tunes.
