Watch the mimes or the "move-for-a-penny-statues" [ one of our favourite is the Business man ] while sitting in one of the open-air cafes [ and if you are lucky a very bad singer of Arabic origin will attempt an "O sole Mio" for you - what a dude! ].

The central fountain by Gianlorenzo Bernini [ 1598-1680 ] represents the four rivers of the then-known continents - a masterpiece of baroque art and one of Rome's most famous. Close-by there is Campo dei Fiori, one of our favourite piazzas in Rome, lively night and day, and tons of small narrow streets one more charming than the other. All in all Piazza Navona is a great area to stay in Rome.
