Rome bars & clubs

As with all major European cities, Rome offers an ecclectic and energetic nightlife to anyone who wants to sample it. It has a fairly large choice of bars and clubs, at least enough to keep you busy for most nights of the week - though don't expect Rome's nightlife to be at the same level than London, Paris or Barcelona.

Rome party's at a slightly slower pace than it's counterparts mainly because the Romans [ Italians in general ] don't consume the same level of alcohol. Most of the activity is focused in the historic centre and there are some excellent late-night hangouts around Piazza Navona. Trastevere, Monti and Equiline hills are also full of bars and pubs for everyone. Most of the clubs are in Testaccio, just south of Trastevere.

Bars in Rome

Bar della Pace: [Via della Pace 3/7, Rome 06 6861216] Bar della Pace has been the place to be seen for years. It's a great [if not expensive] place to hangout and people watch. Grab a table outside, sit back, relax and feel proud that you're sitting with the "in crowd" of Rome.

Bramates: [via della Tor Milina 1 06 68801053] Very romantic restauran/bar opposite Cafe delle Pace in one of the most beautiful streets in Rome, modern Italian cuisine and an entertaining spot for a drink late at night - best Mojito in Rome.

Vini Olio: [via della Tor Milina 32 ] Bar owned by a very friendly Canadian / Italian, nite spot for the younger set and a good choice for an afternoon glass of wine and a plate of delicious antipasto.

Sant'Eustachio Cafe: [Piazza Sant'Eustachio] A block away from the Pantheon is Rome's best coffee, Roman's crowd into this landmark cafe for what is probably the best coffee in town, try their famous grand caffe, a great place for gifts to take back home.

Bar del Fico: [Piazza del Fico, Rome, 66 865205 ] This is one of the best places to drink in the early evening. Soak up the sun while watching the beauties pass by or just soak up the great atmosphere with the varied clientele.

Supperclub: [Via de'Nari 14, Rome, 06 68807207] This is the sister club to the legendary Amsterdam Supperclub. It's set in 3rd century mansion [ ! ] and tucked down a cobbled narrow alley. Inside, you'll have the feeling that you're in a movie. Lots of eleganance and extravagance have gone into designing the Supperclub. Rouges, whites and a high level of sultriness make this place a special night out. The restaurant isn't anything to shout about but there's music until 3am and the bar staff make cocktails that can make you cry.

Salotto 42: [Piazza di Pietra 42 06 678 5804] Salotto 42 is owned by a half Roman/Swede which gives the place it’s strange mix of décor and clientele. Very laid back in a sort of half library / bar - the cocktails are great and you can have lunch during the summer by the side of the Pantheon.

Baritto: [via Monte Giordano 63 06 683 00159] Drink too much tequila and you might believe you’ve ended up in Mexico. Small, unpretentious and fun.

Ketumbar: [Via Galvani 24 06 57305338 Asian-influenced bar with Japanese cuisine including sushi. Very cool music to lounge around the bar with.

Clubs in Rome

Goa: [Via Libetta 13, Rome 06 5748277] One of Rome's trendiest and hippest clubs. House, hip hop, jungle and tribal music predominate. Rome's best music venue.

Radio Londra: [Via Monte Testaccio 67, Rome 06 5750044] Radio Londra attracts a unique and alternative crowd of people who express themselves in any number of ways, including outlandish clothing and body piercings. The music is vibrant, energetic and the crowd is vivacious. The music varies from night to night but you can usually get your fill of techno and hard house whatever the night.

La Maison: [Vicolo del Granari 3 06 683 3312] One of only two clubs in the Centro Storico. A very cool club with chill out room and large cathedral like room for dancing. Great music and cocktails on offer.

Bloom: [via del Teatro Pace 30 06 68802029] Another good club in the centre. Great bar and restaurant with dancing until 3am. This place pulls in a fashionable twenty to thirty something crowd.

Joia: [via Galvani 20 06 574 08062] Classy joint with a great terrace. Eat at the romantic restaurant and then take your loved one to the club to boogie the night away.
