Prague is an old city full of warehouses and palaces. Where in the world can you go clubbing in a crumbling underground ex-cinema and then find yourself downing absinthe a Romanesque stone cellar. Gothic Prague hasn't changed much and the clubbing sub-culture is the best way to experience this antique city. The clubs here are smoky, cramped, slightly seedy and generally underground but have bags of atmosphere and the locals have a top attitude when it comes to enjoying themselves. Forget the pretentiousness of London and Paris; Prague is the place to go clubbing.
Akropolis Palace: [Akropolis, +42 02 223 5119] Akropolis Palace is a huge multi complex with live music, concerts, theatre, restaurants and a number of low-ceiled bars and is an excellent place for a night out. It's located in the Zizkov district, just around the corner from the enormous, Thunderbirds-style TV tower. The clientele are varied as is the music and beer on tap.
Klub 007: [Vanickova 7, Prague 1, +42 02 5721 1439] An independent underground club that specialises in promoting local talent including live music and DJs playing ska, punk, reggae, hiphop, jungle, techno and dub amongst others. Good fun and a very cheap night out.
Klub Lavka: [Novotného lávka 1, Prague 1, +42 02 2108 2299] A slightly cheesy club aimed at a 30 something crowd but what a venue. With an outdoor dance floor and views towards Charles Bridge and Prague Castle you can't fault it. Disco until early morning.
Mecca: [U Pruhonu 3, Prague 7 , +42 02 8387 0522] Despite being located outside of the center of Prague, this Hip Hop club is one of the most popular in the city. Mecca has been working with a number of promotors across Prague and Europe and now pulls in some of the top DJ's across the world. Just in case your hungry there's also a good restaurant and cafe. [Metro: Line C Vltavská]
Karlovy Lažne: [Smetanovo nábreží 198, Prague 1, +42 02 2222 0502] Set within a spectacular 14th Century building, this four-floored, five-room super-club is for those people looking for everything under one roof. Mainly geared towards tourists, each floor plays its own music. Just in case you fancy a walk, this place is huge and on a busy night which is practically every night it can get wild and unruely. Maybe the atomic strength shots might have something to do with it.
Futurum: [Praha 5 Zborovská 7, Prague 1, +42 02 5732 8571] A live music venue, nightclub and cool place to party, this Prague club has it all. Mainly full of locals coming to listen to live acts and relax. Lots of industrial design going in inside gives this place a warehouse feel to it. Friday night is the night for Futurum and the hip sounds are mainly from the 80's and 90's. Don't let that put you off as the clientele are generally young, hot and very trendy. [Open: Mon - Sun 20.00 - 03.00]
