Stare Mesto means "Old Town" in Czech. Here you'll find the Old Town Square with the famous Astronomical Clock, wonder of late medieval engineering. Since 1490, people have gathered on the hour to watch its wooden doors swing open and the saints emerge to roll above lurid figures illustrating greed, vanity, death and 'the Turk'.

In Stare Mesto there are also beautiful pastel-coloured buildings of Romanesque or Gothic origin with fascinating signs. Some of the most prominent examples include the Kinsky Palace, the House of the Stone Bell and the Storch House.This is also Prague's center for bars and clubs.
