Tuscany Coast GUIDE

Tuscany Coast GuideThe Tuscany coast is where the picturesque hills of Tuscany meet white-sanded beaches.

The Maremma region is on the Tyrrhenian sea, south of Pisa and north of Rome. Northern Maremma is home to Bolgheri, Sassicaia, and the super Tuscan wines that have become so famous in recent years. Southern Maremma contains many remnants of the Etruscan civilization, and some very nice new wines too.

Take a trip to the Isola d'Elba and lounge on the golden beaches and swim in the azure-blue sea. Napoleon was exiled here for a year in May 1814; a very tough penalty. Napoleon, although his stay was short, built streets, developed laws to favour the mines and designed the flag of the island, still in use today.

Visit the Etruscan sites at Sovana and the Parco Naturale della Maremma is a beautiful stretch of unspoiled coastline in the south of the region.
