Barcelona RESTAURANTS

Barcelona restaurantsBarcelona has restaurants to suit all tastes and thankfully all budgets. Some of the best are the most typical, called "tabernas Catalanas" [Catalan inns], which offer traditional home cooking. In recent years, Barcelona's restaurant scene has become extremely fashionable and more emphasis has been on the decor than the food. Thankfully, things are changing and traditional as well as international cuisine is gaining ground again including Italian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Japanese restaurants. As always, the best seafood restaurants can be found in and around Barceloneta and the ports.

Barcelona Barri Gotic restaurants

Agut: [C/Gig 16, 93 315 17 09] Metro Jaume I. Founded in 1924, Agut is a good Catalan traditional kitchen with lots of atmosphere. We found all the pasta, meat and fish dishes to be excellent, but make sure you leave some room for desert.

Ateneu Gastronomic: [Plaza de Sant Miquel 2 bis 93 302 11 98] Metro Liceu or Jaume I. This Stylish restaurant has something for everyone with a menu covering fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. The decor is something out of the colonial times with columns, palms and wicker lampshades. Tuck into lukewarm salad of king prawns followed by ravioli of meat and foie-gras with wild mushroomes sauce and a wine from a wine list that's as long as your arm.

Barcelona Barceloneta Restaurants

Agua: [Pg. Maritim de la Barceloneta 30, 93 225 12 72] Metro Barceloneta. With a huge terrace thats right on the beach and good food thats fresh & tasty and well priced, Agua is a popular restaurant with locals and tourists alike. the selection varied & all at very reasonable prices. The decor has a modern yet colonial feel with funky big fish & paintings. Need to book ahead.

Set Portes: [Passeig d'Isabel II 14 93 319 30 33 / 93 319 29 50] Metro Barceloneta. You can come to Barcelona and not have paella and Set Portes dishes out some of the best. Try one of their famous rice dishes.

Suquet de l'Almirall: [Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 93.221.62.33] Metro Barceloneta. Lies between new Olympic Port and Port Vell near Agua. This Barcelona restaurant specialises in fish and rice dishes. Here you can sample some of the best Catalan recipes while sitting in front of the sea on the large terrace. Book if you want to be outside.

Barcelona Eixample Restaurants

Noti: [Roger de Llúria 35- 37, 93 342 66 73] Cool décor and great cocktails. This is more of a place to be seen than to eat really well. There’s well to do crowd that’s a good intro into the Barcelona higher society. Good wine list with generally fish on the menu.

Tragaluz: [Ptge. de la concepció 5, 93 487.01.96] A cool villa and is the 3rd restaurant of the Tragaluz group and we think one of the best. Dining rooms are on separate floors with eclectic art and soft lighting. Very cool and the menu changes depending on the season. Duck, beef tenderloin, seabass and desserts you will die for. There’s a more casual version downstairs called Tragarapíd.

Ciudad Condal: [Rambla de Catalunya 18 , 93.318.19.97] Ciudad Condal is the old name of Barcelona. This joint is always filled with a hungry throng of discerning customers. Serves up some of the best tapas in Barcelona.

Barcelona Montjuic Resaurants

La Tomaquera: [C/Margarit 58 no phone] La Tomaquera is a one-room chop-house and is the sort of place that closes early when there's a football game on TV. For about 30 euros, you could eat yourself till you explode in this lively restaurant. Try the snails in a rich gravy, followed by an assortment of grilled beef, lamb, and other meats.

La Parra: [C/Joanot Martorell 3, 93 332 51 34] Situated in an old converted coach house, La Parra specialises in the cooking style of rural Catalonia. Meat dishes grilled over a wood fire with the leg of lamb said to be the best in the city. All the dishes are perfectly grilled and aromatic with herbs, served on wooden platters and accompanied by a large slice of country bread rubbed with tomato and drizzled with olive oil, or potatoes baked in the chimney.

El Xalet: [Av. de Miramar,31 58 93 324 92 70] Up on top of the Montjuic hill, provides one of the best back drops of Barcelona. Fish and good wine are on the menu here and with views across Barcelona from the terrace you'll soon forget all your worries.
